Capítulo 4 · Lección 4.8 · Question tags

Question tags en inglés: cómo se forman (isn’t it? don’t you?)

It’s cold today, isn’t it?

Positiva → tag negativo: She IS here, ISN’T she? · You WILL go, WON’T you? | Negativa → tag positivo: She ISN’T here, IS she? · You WON’T go, WILL you?

¿Cómo se dice «Ya has estado aquí, ¿verdad?» en inglés?

Con qué auxiliar

  • Con beIt IS nice, ISN’T it? You AREN’T tired, ARE you?
  • Con do (presente y pasado simple)You DO know, DON’T you? She DIDN’T call, DID she? Si la frase no tiene auxiliar, se usa do / does / did.
  • Con un modalShe CAN swim, CAN’T she? They WILL come, WON’T they?
  • Con have + participioYou’VE been here, HAVEN’T you? El auxiliar es have.

Excepciones (el manual no las traía)

  • I am → aren’t I?I’m late, aren’t I? No se dice «amn’t I». (Muy formal: «am I not?».)
  • Let’s → shall we?Let’s go, shall we?
  • Imperativos → will you?Close the door, will you? También won’t you?, can you?, could you? Suaviza la orden.
  • Nobody / nothing / never → tag positivoNobody called, did they? Con nothing se usa it: Nothing happened, did it?
  • There is → there en el tagThere’s milk, isn’t there? (no «isn’t it»).
