Capítulo 4 · Lección 4.10 · Comparativos y superlativos
Comparativos y superlativos en inglés: taller, more expensive, the best
Más alto, el más alto: depende del largo de la palabra.
En español todo es «más» y «el más». En inglés, los adjetivos cortos cambian de forma (tall → taller → the tallest) y los largos usan more y the most (expensive → more expensive → the most expensive).
Nunca se mezclan: «more taller» está mal. Y unos pocos, los más usados, son irregulares: good, bad y far.
La regla: Corto (1 sílaba o en ‑y): ‑er / the ‑est. Largo: more / the most. Para comparar: than (nunca «that»). Para igualar: as… as.
Cómo se forma
| Tipo de adjetivo | Comparativo | Superlativo |
|---|---|---|
| Corto: tall, old, cheap | taller | the tallest |
| Vocal + consonante: big, hot | bigger, hotter | the biggest, the hottest |
| Termina en ‑y: easy, happy | easier | the easiest |
| Largo: expensive, interesting | more expensive | the most expensive |
| Irregular: good / bad / far | better / worse / farther | the best / the worst / the farthest |
Con el superlativo y un lugar se usa in: the biggest city in Mexico. Con un periodo o grupo, of: the best day of my life.
